WTAMU Trombone Studio Update

The WTAMU Trombone Studio is enjoying an excellent start to Spring 2025. We began the day before the semester started with a masterclass by legendary trombonist Don Lucas, current professor of trombone at Boston University as well as former president of the International Trombone Association and former professor at Texas Tech. The semester is continuing strong with orchestral excerpt sections and research presentations to occur in studio class. Four seniors are also set to give degree recitals: Alec Jung and Spencer Owens will give their recitals on tenor trombone, and on bass trombone will be DJ Brooks and Brandon Trinh.

Over the past year the studio has earned many accolades; of special note was our invited performance at the 2024 International Trombone Festival as well as Dr. Shanks's three separate performances at the same convention.

Studio members were well represented on the national stage at the Southeast Trombone Symposium (where of six competition finalists, one was a current studio member and one was an immediate alum) as well as the Southwest Trombone Conference.
