New WTAMU Trumpet Instructor David Lough
David Lough is an active music educator and trumpet performer from Canyon, TX. He has served in the Amarillo Symphony as third trumpet since 2008 and was appointed second trumpet in 2024. He performs regularly with Chamber Music Amarillo, the Amarillo Opera, and the Amarillo Symphony Brass Quintet.
David graduated from Canyon High School in 2003 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in Trumpet Performance from West Texas A&M University in 2008 and 2010, respectively. During his master’s studies, David served as the second trumpet in the WTAMU Faculty Brass Quintet, which actively performed numerous recitals and tours around the country.
From 2011 to 2019, David served as a band director in Canyon, TX, where his middle school bands consistently earned sweepstakes in UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluations. His beginner bands received multiple “Best in Class” awards at the Greater Southwest Music Festival. Additionally, David served as an assistant director for the high school band program specializing in brass instruction and contributing to their recognition as a Texas State Marching Contest finalist on multiple occasions. David also served as the trumpet instructor at Amarillo College from 2023 to 2024.
David is proud to be a product of West Texas A&M University and is grateful for the opportunity to give back to the community that impacted his music education so greatly. David’s notable trumpet teachers include Robert Hinds, Russ Teweleit, John Strother, and William Takacs. Beyond his professional life, David treasures time spent with his wife Ann and their sons, James and Ben.
