WT Band Student Spotlight: Patrick Lucas
Name:
Patrick Lucas
Years in Band:
6 at WT! 12 total
Graduation and degrees:
I currently hold a bachelors in music education and I will graduate this summer with a masters in music performance
Instrument:
Euphonium, with secondary experience on trumpet, french horn, trombone, and tuba
Ensembles:
WTAMU Symphonic Band, WTAMU Concert Band, WTAMU Brass Choir, WTAMU Tuba Octet, & First Presbyterian Church Amarillo Sanctuary Choir
Favorite memories:
Some of my favorite memories will always be performing at TMEA twice in college, and performing at CBDNA once. I will also cherish many memories of being in Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and Kappa Kappa Psi in my undergrad and getting to build lifelong friendships with many people I interacted with in my time in both of those organizations.
Significant lessons learned:
In my time as an undergrad at WT, I learned a lot of great lessons on being a great student and a lot of fundamental musical and life lessons that helped me become the young adult I am now. My time as a masters student has helped me become a better leader and a better teacher. I have had many opportunities to lead ensembles of various sizes and learned so many valuable lessons about conducting as well as managing an ensemble.
Advice for current WT students:
Trust your professors and mentors! Oftentimes we don’t fully listen to some of the valuable advice that our teachers are giving us. Take the opportunities to better yourself and learn from every experience that you get to be a part of.
Goals after WT:
Become a band director and continue to grow my knowledge and experience in this field! While I have learned so much from my time at WT, I know I still have plenty to learn and I am excited to get more opportunities to improve my teaching skills!

I can say that I remember when you were a little guy at band camp…….but your character and work ethic were evident even then! I can’t wait to hear where you land your first gig! Those kids are going to be so fortunate to have you, Patrick! My sincere best wishes to you and keep in touch!
