WT Faculty Brass Quintet Spotlight
The West Texas A&M University faculty brass quintet had a very busy summer performing and teaching. In June they were invited to perform at the Lake City Arts summer festival in beautiful Lake City Colorado. The recital was held in the Mosley Arts center serrounded by 14,000 feet tall peaks. Following Lake City the quintet returned to Canyon to teach at the West Texas A&M University Band Camp, where over 1000 students came from all over the country. To finish off the summer they travelled to Leksand Sweden to participate in the Stockholm Chamber Brass Academy. Five quintets were selected world wide and the WTAMU faculty brass was one of them. The week long course hosted by the SCB quintet musicians, included daily coaching sessions, recitals, workshops and individual lessons. Days started at 8:30 in the morning and often ended at 6:30 in the evening. Even though it was a fairly intensive and tiring experience, the academy was certainly the highlight of the year. The course culminated in the quintets performing in the stunning Stockholm Cathedral right across the street from the Swedish Royal Palace.
